Jeddah Airport Delays: Know Your Passenger Rights

King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah remains operational this October 2026, though travelers should be aware of some reported flight delays and cancellations. Passengers are advised to confirm their flight status directly with the operating airline before heading to the airport.

Under passenger-rights rules, travelers are entitled to clear protections. If a flight is cancelled, the airline must either offer an alternative flight or allow the passenger to cancel the booking and receive a full refund — including any paid fees for seats, baggage, and other reservation charges.

Compensation for cancellations

The level of compensation depends on timing. If a cancellation happens between 60 and 14 days before departure, the passenger is entitled to 50% of the affected ticket value. Between 14 days and 24 hours before departure, that rises to 75%. If the cancellation occurs within 24 hours of departure, compensation reaches 150% of the affected ticket value.

Delays and care

For delays, if a flight is held up more than two hours, the passenger may request to cancel and receive a fee-free refund. If the delay exceeds five hours, the traveler may treat the flight as cancelled and claim the applicable cancellation compensation. Care entitlements also apply: refreshments after one hour of waiting and a suitable meal after three hours. If an aircraft stays on the tarmac for more than three hours, passengers must be allowed to disembark.

Complaints should be filed with the airline first. If the issue is not resolved, it can be escalated through the General Authority of Civil Aviation passenger-rights channel. Importantly, no fixed fee applies to a passenger's statutory refund or cancellation claim. Knowing these rights helps residents and travelers in Jeddah protect their bookings during periods of disruption.
