Jeddah Chamber and Jeddah Municipality reviewed updated compliance requirements for restaurants, cafés, food kiosks, and juice shops in October 2026, setting clearer standards for operators across the city.
Under the updated requirements, establishments must maintain separate areas for preparation, serving, and storage, employ an accredited food-safety specialist, and install workplace CCTV. They are also required to provide electronic payment systems and ensure proper temperature control for chilled and frozen foods.
Restaurants and cafés must display calorie and nutritional information on their menus. This includes calories, protein, fats, sodium, carbohydrates, sugar, and added sugar, giving customers a clearer picture of what they are ordering.
How to check and comply
A self-assessment and compliance service is available through Balady for holders of commercial licences. Operators can also review activity-specific municipal requirements electronically by selecting the relevant commercial activity on the platform.
Establishments that achieve a 100% compliance result may qualify for a compliance certificate that suspends routine inspection visits for one year, an incentive aimed at encouraging full adherence to the standards.
For residents and visitors, the measures are designed to raise food safety and transparency across dining venues in Jeddah, making it easier to make informed choices while supporting consistent standards for the city's food sector.
