The Saudi Red Crescent Authority in the Makkah region has placed 166 ambulance teams on standby ahead of the rainy season, boosting readiness to respond quickly to weather-related emergencies across the region.
The teams are distributed across the region's main population centers, with 69 teams in Jeddah, 60 in Makkah, and 37 in Taif. The deployment also includes six specialized response vehicles to handle more complex emergencies.
Teams may be repositioned based on weather conditions and emergency-call patterns, moving closer to valleys, major highways, crowded areas, and rugged terrain where incidents are more likely during heavy rain.
How residents can help
In an emergency, residents can reach medical assistance by calling 997. When reporting an incident, callers should give the precise location to help teams arrive as fast as possible. Drivers are also urged to give ambulances priority on the road so crews can reach patients without delay.
Reporting an emergency and receiving ambulance assistance is free of charge. There are no fees, service-validity periods, or Absher or Muqeem procedures required to request help.
The move matters to residents and visitors across Jeddah, Makkah, and Taif as the rainy season raises the risk of flooding and road accidents. Keeping emergency teams positioned near high-risk spots is intended to shorten response times and improve safety when sudden weather events occur.
