Saudi Arabia's Operating Revenues Index rose 3% year on year in August 2026, supported largely by stronger manufacturing activity across the Kingdom.
Manufacturing activity recorded the biggest contribution, climbing 7.7% compared with the same month a year earlier. Construction activity also expanded, growing 3.2% year on year. Despite its yearly gains, manufacturing slipped 4.7% on a month-on-month basis in August.
The figures continue a broadly positive run for the index this year. In May 2026 it increased 11.4% year on year, with manufacturing up 9.6%, while June 2026 saw a 6.1% annual rise alongside a notable 16.9% jump in manufacturing. The manufacturing-sector index stood at 120.9 in July 2026.
Why it matters
The Operating Revenues Index tracks business performance across key economic sectors, offering a snapshot of how companies are generating income. Steady growth in manufacturing and construction points to continued activity in two sectors that employ large numbers of residents and expatriates alike.
For the community, sustained expansion in these areas can mean more business opportunities, hiring, and demand for goods and services. The month-on-month dip in manufacturing is a reminder that short-term fluctuations can occur even as the yearly trend remains upward.
