Paying Traffic Fines with Najm and Absher in KSA

Traffic fines are one of the most common admin tasks any driver in Saudi Arabia will deal with sooner or later. The good news is that the whole process — from checking what you owe to paying, splitting the amount, or objecting — is handled digitally, mainly through أبشر and the national SADAD bill-payment system. In this Saudi Living guide we walk you through every step so you can clear violations quickly, take advantage of the early-payment discount, and avoid having fines block your licence or registration renewals.

Where and how to pay

Traffic fines in Saudi Arabia are settled through أبشر and the SADAD system, which is built into every local bank app, ATM, and branch counter. You have three reliable channels:

  • Via أبشر: log in to the website or mobile app, go to Services → Traffic → Pay Violations, then pay using a linked bank card or SADAD.
  • Via your bank app: open Payments → Government Payments/SADAD, choose the Ministry of Interior traffic-violations biller (the biller code is commonly listed as 007 or 071), enter your ID/iqama or violation number, and confirm.
  • Via ATM or bank counter: use the Government Payments or traffic-violations menu and follow the prompts.

Whichever channel you use, keep the receipt or reference number until the status clears.

How much are fines in 2026?

Traffic fines generally range from SAR 150 to SAR 10,000, depending on the type and severity of the violation. Some typical 2026 amounts include:

  • Running a red light: up to SAR 6,000.
  • Amber (yellow) light violation: SAR 3,000–6,000.
  • Using a mobile phone while driving: up to SAR 900.
  • Overtaking on the shoulder or on the right: up to SAR 6,000.
  • Typical overspeeding: from about SAR 300.
  • Extreme overspeeding (over roughly 160 km/h): up to SAR 10,000 plus licence suspension.

These are indicative figures — always confirm the exact amount shown against your record in أبشر before paying.

The 25% early-payment discount

This is the detail that saves drivers the most money. If you pay a traffic fine within 30 days of the violation notification date in أبشر, you get a 25% discount on the amount. After the 30-day window closes, the full fine applies. Unpaid fines can also block the renewal of your driving licence, vehicle registration, and even your iqama, so it pays to settle promptly.

Splitting a fine into instalments

If a fine is larger than you can pay in one go, أبشر lets you spread it out. Fines under SAR 5,000 can be paid in 4 interest-free instalments directly through أبشر. This is a useful option that avoids the fine going unpaid and triggering a renewal block.

Objecting to a fine or extending the deadline

If you believe a violation was recorded in error, you can dispute it in أبشر within 30 days of its registration. Should that objection window pass, you can still request an extension of the payment deadline within 15 days after the objection period ends.

To submit an extension request in أبشر:

  • Log in to أبشر.
  • Go to Services → Traffic → Extending Deadline for Paying Traffic Violations.
  • Agree to the terms.
  • Submit your request.

Checking that a fine is cleared

Once you pay through أبشر or SADAD, the violation status usually updates within minutes. It will show as cleared in أبشر, and you will have a payment receipt with a reference number. Always double-check the record after paying, and hold onto the reference in case you need it for a future renewal.

A few practical tips

  • Enable notifications in أبشر so you learn about new violations immediately and don't miss the 30-day discount window.
  • Check your record before renewing your licence, registration, or iqama, since outstanding fines can hold up all three.
  • If you were driving a rented or shared vehicle, verify the violation is correctly linked to the responsible driver before paying.

For any fee, deadline, or discount that isn't clearly shown on your own record, confirm the details directly through أبشر, which is the official reference for your traffic file.
