Saudi Arabia was officially selected on 11 December 2024 to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup, marking a milestone in the Kingdom's growing presence in global football. The tournament is set to take place across five proposed host cities: الرياض, جدة, Al Khobar, Abha, and نيوم.
The 2034 edition will be the first FIFA World Cup featuring 48 teams to be held in a single country. 15 stadiums are planned across the five host cities, including four existing venues to be refurbished, three under construction, and eight new stadiums to be built.
King Salman International Stadium in الرياض is proposed to host both the opening match and the final. Proposed team-base locations span the Kingdom and include العلا, المدينة المنورة, Al Baha, Tabuk, Hail, Umluj, Buraidah, Taif, Jazan, and Al Ahsa.
Why it matters
Hosting the tournament is expected to place the Kingdom at the center of international sport, drawing visitors and fans from around the world while supporting broader development across host and team-base cities. For residents and expats, the scale of the event signals significant activity in infrastructure, hospitality, and travel in the years ahead.
At this stage, no official ticket prices, visa fees, match dates, stadium operating schedules, or tournament-specific application procedures have been announced. An exact start and end date for the 2034 World Cup has not yet been confirmed. We will share verified details as they become available.
