Saudi Arabia's rail networks recorded more than 40.9 million passenger journeys during the third quarter of 2026, reflecting growing reliance on public transport across the Kingdom.

Riyadh Metro accounted for the largest share, carrying 30.4 million journeys. The automated train at King Abdulaziz International Airport served around 7 million passengers, while the line linked to Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University handled approximately 911,200 passengers.

Intercity services moved more than 2.5 million passengers over the period. The Haramain High-Speed Railway carried more than 1.9 million passengers, connecting Makkah, Jeddah, King Abdulaziz International Airport, King Abdullah Economic City, and Madinah.

On the longer-distance networks, the Eastern Network recorded around 393,900 passengers, linking Riyadh, Abqaiq, Hofuf, and Dammam. The Northern Network served approximately 258,600 passengers, connecting Riyadh with Al-Majmaah, Qassim, Hail, Al-Jouf, and Qurayyat.

The figures point to the expanding role of rail in daily commuting and intercity travel, offering residents and visitors faster and more sustainable options. For communities in Riyadh and Jeddah, the continued growth of metro and high-speed services supports easier access to work, education, and travel hubs across the Kingdom.
