Parents of children newly enrolled in the first grade of primary school across Saudi Arabia are being urged to complete the mandatory school health screening before the academic year gets under way. The examination is carried out at government primary healthcare centers through family medicine clinics.

Appointments are booked through the Sehhaty app. Parents log in or create an account, open the Appointments section, tap Book an Appointment, choose a primary healthcare center, select the Family Medicine Clinic, pick a suitable date and time, and confirm the booking.

The screening is comprehensive. It includes a clinical examination, measurement of height and weight to calculate body mass index, and checks of vision, hearing, speech, and dental and oral health. Doctors also review the child's medical history and verify that basic vaccinations are up to date.

What to bring

The child must attend accompanied by a parent or guardian. Required documents include the child's family ID or residence permit, along with the original vaccination certificate. The service is provided through government primary healthcare centers.

Results of the examination are recorded in the child's file and may guide any needed referral or help determine the most suitable educational pathway, whether general education or special education. Completing the screening early helps families avoid delays and ensures children begin school with any health needs identified and addressed.
