Weather alerts have been issued across several regions of the kingdom as moderate to heavy thunderstorms, accompanied by the risk of flash floods, are forecast to affect parts of the country. Residents in the impacted areas are urged to take precautions and follow official safety guidance.
Moderate to heavy thunderstorms may affect Jazan, Asir, Al-Baha, Makkah, Hail, Al-Jouf, and the Northern Borders. These storms could bring torrential runoff, hail, strong surface winds, and reduced visibility. Lighter rainfall, ranging from light to moderate, is expected across Madinah, Tabuk, and the Eastern Region.
Overnight and early-morning fog may also form along coastal areas of Madinah, Makkah, and the Eastern Region, which could further limit visibility for drivers.
A red heavy-rain alert was scheduled for parts of the Makkah Region on Friday, October 16, 2026, while an orange moderate-rain alert was set for parts of the Asir Region on the same day.
Safety guidance
Authorities advise the public to avoid valleys, flood channels, and low-lying areas, and never to attempt crossing flowing water. Motorists and residents should follow Civil Defense instructions at all times and stay away from areas prone to runoff until conditions improve.
The weather warning is a public-safety advisory. No fees, permits, or service-validity periods apply. Staying informed and planning travel around the alerts can help residents and families stay safe during the unsettled conditions.
