Al Duwadimi Weather & Best Time to Visit

Al Duwadimi sits in the western part of the Riyadh region, and like much of central Saudi Arabia it has a hot desert climate: long, blazing summers, short and cooler winters, and dry, mostly clear skies all year. What sets it slightly apart is its elevation — roughly 886 metres above sea level — which takes a little edge off the heat compared with lower-lying desert towns. In this guide we break down the weather month by month and pinpoint exactly when to plan your trip.

The climate in a nutshell

Al Duwadimi has a classic hot desert (BWh) climate. Across the year, the average daily high sits around 33 °C, the daily mean around 26 °C, and the daily low around 19 °C. Humidity is consistently low — typically in the 20–25% range — so the heat feels dry rather than sticky, and clear blue skies are the norm rather than the exception.

Summer: long, hot and arid

From June through August, Al Duwadimi is genuinely hot. Daytime highs regularly climb past 40 °C, often reaching 41–42 °C at the peak of the season. Nights offer some relief thanks to the dry air and elevation, but minimums still hover around 27–28 °C in the deepest summer months. June is among the least humid months of the year, which makes the heat more bearable than humid coastal cities but still demanding.

  • Stay hydrated and carry water everywhere.
  • Plan outdoor activities for early morning or after sunset.
  • Use sun protection — clear skies mean strong UV.

Winter: cool, dry and comfortable

Winter is the most pleasant time in Al Duwadimi. From December to January, daytime temperatures generally range between 15 and 24 °C — ideal for exploring, walking and desert outings. Nights turn genuinely cool, often dropping to around 8–11 °C, so a jacket is essential after dark. Winters are also described as short, dry and windy, so pack a windbreaker for open desert areas.

Month-by-month temperatures

Here is how average daily highs and lows shift through the year:

  • January: high ~22 °C, low ~9 °C
  • February: high ~24 °C, low ~11 °C
  • March: high ~29 °C, low ~15 °C
  • April: high ~33 °C, low ~19 °C
  • May: high ~38 °C, low ~24 °C
  • June: high ~41 °C, low ~27 °C
  • July: high ~42 °C, low ~28 °C
  • August: high ~42 °C, low ~28 °C
  • September: high ~40 °C, low ~26 °C
  • October: high ~34 °C, low ~21 °C
  • November: high ~27 °C, low ~14 °C
  • December: high ~23 °C, low ~11 °C

Rainfall and skies

Rain is rare and light. Total annual precipitation is modest — climate summaries put it somewhere between about 27 mm and 110 mm depending on the record, but the picture is consistent: this is a dry, arid place. When rain does fall, it comes in short, episodic bursts, and April tends to be the wettest month (around 29 mm). Every other month generally stays under about 10 mm. Expect clear skies the vast majority of the year.

The best time to visit

The sweet spot is winter, with January and February standing out as the best months. Daytime temperatures are mild, humidity is low, rain is minimal, and the desert is at its most inviting. The shoulder months — November, December and March — are also comfortable and good alternatives if winter dates don't work for you. If you must travel in summer, plan around the heat and keep outdoor plans to the cooler edges of the day.
