Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Health has reported a seasonal rise in respiratory infections and urged eligible residents to get vaccinated. Intensive-care admissions linked to respiratory illness have climbed by roughly 30% over the past three weeks, prompting calls to protect vulnerable groups.
The ministry is encouraging people to receive the seasonal influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccinations. Higher-risk groups include those aged over 50, children between 6 months and 5 years, pregnant women, healthcare workers, people with chronic diseases, and those with severe obesity.
How to book a vaccination
Appointments can be booked through the Sehhaty application. Review your health status, select "Book an Appointment," choose an available time and confirm, then select the "Adult Vaccination Clinic" option to complete the booking. Vaccinations are available through Sehhaty and primary healthcare centers.
The RSV vaccine is recommended in particular for people aged over 60, especially those with chronic heart or lung disease, weakened immunity, or those living in nursing homes. A single RSV dose provides protection for at least two years under typical conditions.
Alongside vaccination, the ministry recommends simple daily precautions: frequent handwashing, covering coughs and sneezes, ventilating enclosed spaces, and wearing masks where needed. Taking these steps now can help ease pressure on hospitals during the busy virus season and keep families, especially those with young children and older relatives, better protected.
