Saudi Arabia established a dedicated investment fund for each of eight transferred sports-club companies in June 2023, part of a wider move to restructure the ownership of leading football clubs in the Kingdom.
The eight clubs covered by the measure are Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr, Al-Ittihad, Al-Ahli, Al-Qadsiah, Al-Diriyah, Al-Ula, and Al-Falcons. Under the arrangement, the value of each club was deposited into its corresponding investment fund in exchange for transferring ownership of the club company.
The Public Investment Fund owns 75% of Al-Hilal, Al-Nassr, Al-Ittihad, and Al-Ahli, while each club's nonprofit foundation holds the remaining 25%. Ownership of the other four clubs was transferred to major national entities: Al-Qadsiah to Saudi Aramco, Al-Diriyah to the Diriyah Gate Development Authority, Al-Ula to the Royal Commission for AlUla, and Al-Falcons to NEOM.
the investment funds are intended to generate sustainable returns for the benefit of each club company, giving the clubs a dedicated financial base to support their operations and long-term development.
For the local community, the measure reflects the growing scale of investment entering Saudi sport. By linking each club to a dedicated fund and a strong institutional owner, the structure aims to put the clubs on firmer financial footing, which could translate into improved facilities, stronger teams, and a richer experience for fans and residents who follow the game across the Kingdom.
