Jeddah Hosts Arab Sailing Championship Team Races

The Jeddah Sailing Center on South Obhur Beach in جدة hosted the team racing competitions of the 2026 Arab Sailing Championship for the Optimist class, held from 17 to 21 September 2026 on the Red Sea coast. The team racing segment featured 10 teams representing 9 Arab nations.

The championship gathered young sailors aged 8 to 15 from 13 Arab countries, with around 90 participants taking part across all races. Team racing (the Arab Cup team race) was held on 18 September, while fleet races continued through 21 September. A unified girls' team made up of sailors from السعودية, Jordan and Egypt competed in the team racing competitions.

Results

In the team racing competitions, the UAE claimed the title, Oman took silver as finalist, and Morocco earned bronze. In the Optimist fleet racing, Saudi sailors delivered strong performances, with a Saudi female sailor finishing second and a Saudi male sailor taking third in the individual standings.

The event was organized by the Saudi Sailing Federation in coordination with the Arab Sailing Federation, with support from the Ministry of Sport and the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee. Registration and equipment inspection for participants were handled on site at the Jeddah Sailing Center.

The championship highlights جدة's growing role as a hub for marine sports on the Red Sea and offers young athletes across the Arab world a chance to compete at a regional level, reinforcing the Kingdom's investment in youth sport and water-based activities.
