Jeddah Municipality has closed two unauthorized food-production facilities in the Al-Harazat and Al-Qus neighborhoods of eastern Jeddah after inspectors found they were operating without the required municipal permits.
The two facilities were producing and preparing biscuits and sweets while failing to meet approved municipal and health requirements. During the campaign, authorities destroyed 2.5 tonnes of food products in total — 1.5 tonnes at one site and 1 tonne at the other — and seized the equipment used at both locations.
The inspection was carried out as a joint effort involving Jeddah Municipality, the Ministry of Commerce, the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, Jeddah Police, and Civil Defense, reflecting continued coordination between agencies to monitor food outlets across the city.
Why it matters
Unlicensed food facilities operate outside the health and safety oversight designed to protect consumers, raising the risk of products that do not meet hygiene standards. Shutting them down helps safeguard public health and ensures that items reaching the market are prepared under approved conditions.
Residents are encouraged to play a part in keeping food safe. Municipal violations can be reported through the Balady application or by calling the unified number 940, allowing authorities to act quickly on complaints and inspect suspected sites.
