Moving to Buraidah: What to Know Before You Arrive

Buraidah, the capital of the Al Qassim region in north-central Saudi Arabia, offers a slower, more traditional pace of life than the Kingdom's big hubs — often at a noticeably lower cost. It's known as one of the more conservative and family-oriented cities, which many newcomers find appealing once they settle in. This Saudi Living guide walks you through the essentials: what living here costs, how to find housing, and the residency steps you'll complete before you even arrive.

What Buraidah is like

Buraidah is a traditional, close-knit city where local customs are strongly observed. Living costs are generally lower than in the larger metropolitan centres, which makes it attractive for singles and families looking to stretch a salary further. Expect a quieter lifestyle, welcoming communities, and a growing range of everyday amenities.

Cost of living in 2026

A comfortable expat lifestyle — covering rent, utilities, groceries, and transport — typically runs between SAR 8,000 and SAR 15,000 per month. As rough benchmarks:

  • Single person, all-in with rent: about SAR 5,800/month.
  • Single person, excluding rent: about SAR 3,200/month.
  • Family of four, excluding rent: about SAR 11,700/month.

Your exact figures depend heavily on your neighbourhood, lifestyle, and family size.

Rent and where to live

Rent is the biggest variable in your budget. Typical monthly ranges for apartments:

  • 1-bedroom, city centre: around SAR 2,600 (range roughly SAR 1,300–5,000).
  • 1-bedroom, outside the centre: around SAR 1,260 (range roughly SAR 800–2,000).
  • 3-bedroom, city centre: around SAR 6,500 (range roughly SAR 2,200–15,000).
  • 3-bedroom, outside the centre: around SAR 3,100 (range roughly SAR 1,500–6,000).

Living slightly outside the centre can significantly cut costs while keeping you within easy reach of the city.

Finding a home and signing a lease

Most apartment and villa searches are done through popular property apps such as Aqar and Bayut. Once you find a place, note that residential leases in Saudi Arabia are registered on the Ejar system.

  • Landlords or real-estate offices typically initiate the Ejar contract online.
  • The contract is linked to your National Address and Iqama.
  • A registered Ejar contract protects both parties and is often required for other services, so insist on one.

Residency: the steps before you arrive

Before you can live in Buraidah, you'll go through the national residency process. A standard employment Iqama cannot be self-sponsored — you need a Saudi employer to sponsor your work visa.

  • Your employer uploads your unified digital employment contract to قوى (Qiwa); you log in and authenticate it to start the formal visa cycle.
  • You must enter Saudi Arabia within the entry visa validity — typically 90 days from issuance.
  • On arrival, biometric registration (fingerprints and photo) is completed at airport immigration.
  • Your employer must convert the entry work visa into an Iqama (residence permit) within 90 days of entry, via مقيم (Muqeem) or أبشر (Absher).

Keep copies of all documents, and confirm each step directly with your employer and on the relevant official Saudi government portals.

Before you go

Set up your key digital accounts early — أبشر, مقيم, and قوى are central to daily life and administrative tasks. Because specific fees and timelines can change, always verify current requirements on the official portals rather than relying on estimates. With the paperwork handled, Buraidah rewards new arrivals with affordability, safety, and a genuinely welcoming community.
