A new cultural program to document, preserve, and promote heritage terms specific to the Najran region was launched in September 2026 at the Central Library of Najran University in Najran city. Titled the "Translation of Heritage Terms in the Najran Region," the initiative aims to protect local vocabulary and expressions from distortion or oversimplification.
The program is supported by the Literature, Publishing and Translation Commission through its "Madid" program, and is being implemented in partnership with Najran University, the regional branch of the Heritage Commission in Najran, and the National Center for Non-Profit Sector Development.
Among its main goals, the program seeks to prepare accurate and reliable definitions of Najrani heritage terms in both Arabic and English, accompanied by illustrative and expressive images for each term. It also focuses on training student and researcher translators in cultural translation methods, helping to strengthen the presence of Saudi national cultural heritage locally and internationally.
The documented terms will be compiled into a printed booklet equipped with a QR code for digital access. This booklet is planned for distribution to development and tourism facilities across Najran, serving as a knowledge guide for visitors and tourists rather than a commercial product. Available information does not state any participation fees or pricing for the booklet.
The effort centers on Najran's intangible cultural heritage — its local words, phrases, and heritage terminology — and forms part of broader ongoing work to survey and record the region's heritage sites and buildings within national registers. For residents and visitors alike, the program offers a clearer, more reliable window into the traditions and identity of one of the Kingdom's distinctive regions.
