Umm Al-Qura University in Makkah is launching the first edition of its Live Museums Enrichment Program, an eight-day event set for August 2026 that aims to deepen the connection between Saudi youth and the city's rich heritage. The program is timed to coincide with International Youth Day on 12 August and supports the cultural tourism and heritage goals of رؤية السعودية 2030.
Held at the university's cultural front, an on-campus venue designed for cultural and educational events, the program targets Saudi youth as its primary audience, while remaining open to anyone interested in Makkah's cultural and historical heritage.
The activities are built around several tracks. These include training workshops in the humanities and visual arts tied to the history of Makkah, live interactive performances that bring "living museums" experiences to life, and sessions covering how to present, preserve, and showcase cultural heritage. The schedule also features sports activities, meetings, and educational exhibitions.
Part of a Wider Cultural Effort
The program forms part of the university's broader Cultural Front initiative and its heritage-museum projects, which present Makkah's history through interactive and virtual-reality experiences for visitors and pilgrims. It is complemented by multilingual digital heritage projects that introduce audiences to Saudi and Makkah sites through interactive media.
For residents and expats interested in Saudi heritage, the program offers a rare hands-on look at how Makkah's tangible and intangible heritage is being preserved and shared. Information and registration are handled directly through the university's own platforms, including its website and Cultural Front communications. No participation fees or ticket prices have been published for the 2026 edition, which runs as a single eight-day cycle.
