Najran University's College of Engineering has won first place at the 2025 International Student Research Competition, held as part of the Second International Conference on Resilient Futures at Jos University in Nigeria.
The winning entry was a student research project titled "Transforming King Fahd Mosque in Najran into a Green and Sustainable Mosque." The project explores how green architecture and sustainability principles can be applied to improve the mosque's development and make more efficient use of its resources.
Why it matters
The award recognises the ability of the university's students to produce innovative research rooted in their local environment, offering practical solutions that address real challenges in their community. By focusing on a landmark within Najran, the students connected academic study with tangible outcomes for the area.
The project also reflects the wider goals of Saudi Vision 2030 on environmental sustainability, showing how Saudi students are contributing ideas that support greener buildings and smarter resource use. For local residents, achievements like this highlight the growing role of the Kingdom's universities on the international stage and the value placed on sustainability-focused education.
