Riyadh Municipality is expanding the use of body-worn cameras during field inspections of commercial and municipal establishments across the capital, in a move aimed at improving transparency and strengthening regulatory compliance.

The cameras record inspection visits in both audio and video, documenting procedures, observations, any violations detected, and objections raised during the visit. the footage is intended to verify inspection findings and protect both inspectors and establishment owners by providing an accurate, shared record of what takes place.

A three-week pilot of the program documented more than 600 inspection visits, giving officials an early measure of how the technology performs in day-to-day field work.

What it means for businesses

For establishment owners, the recordings offer an additional layer of documentation that can support fair treatment and reduce disputes over inspection outcomes. No new inspection fee, application step, validity period, or separate business registration requirement has been announced in connection with the body-camera rollout.

Municipal fees continue to vary by service and can be checked through Balady's official fee calculator. The available information does not indicate a new fee or a new digital objection procedure tied specifically to the camera program.
