King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh resumed operations on 17 October 2026 following a temporary closure, allowing arrivals and departures to restart under restricted conditions.
Operations at the airport remain limited for now. Airlines must obtain prior permission from the General Authority of Civil Aviation before any arrival or departure is carried out, meaning flight activity continues under tighter-than-usual controls even after reopening.
Authorities also noted that the airport is not currently approved as a planned diversion airport. In addition, airlines may still choose to cancel or postpone flights despite the resumption of operations.
What it means for travellers
For residents and expats travelling through Riyadh, the reopening is a positive step, but passengers should not assume schedules are fully back to normal. Because carriers still require individual clearance for each movement, some flights may be delayed, rescheduled, or cancelled at short notice.
Travellers planning trips to or from Riyadh in the coming days are advised to check directly with their airline for the latest status of their flight before heading to the airport, and to allow extra time in case of last-minute changes.
