Saudi Arabia recorded an annual inflation rate of 1.9% in September 2026, a slight rise from 1.8% in the previous month, Consumer prices overall were unchanged compared with August, pointing to a stable month-on-month picture for households.
Housing-related costs remained the main driver of the annual increase. Prices for housing, water, electricity, gas, and fuel rose 3.6% year-on-year, while actual housing rents climbed 3.5% over the same period. These categories continue to weigh most heavily on monthly budgets, particularly for families and expats renting in the larger cities.
Other categories showed more moderate movements. Food and beverage prices increased 1.4% compared with a year earlier, while transportation costs rose 2.3% year-on-year. The combination suggests that everyday essentials are seeing contained price growth, even as housing remains the standout pressure point.
Why it matters for residents
For residents in Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, and beyond, inflation near 2% signals relative price stability compared with sharper swings seen in many other markets. Still, the continued rise in rents and housing-linked expenses means that accommodation costs remain the key factor shaping monthly spending for many households.
With overall prices flat month-on-month, the latest data offers some reassurance that the broader cost of living is holding steady, allowing families to plan their budgets with greater predictability heading into the final quarter of the year.
