Saudi Arabia's long-term investments in its energy sector have helped cushion the global economy from the impact of a major energy shock, keeping supplies and trade flows stable even as regional disruptions threatened exports.

Saudi Finance Minister Mohammed Al-Jadaan said the global shock would have been substantially worse without these investments. the Kingdom's spending on alternative energy-export routes allowed it to maintain the movement of energy and sustain trade even when regional conditions were unstable.

Key infrastructure played a central role. The East-West oil pipeline, extensive oil-storage capacity, and refining facilities gave the Kingdom greater flexibility to adjust how and where it exports its energy, reducing the risk of interruptions reaching global markets.

Why it matters

For residents and businesses, stable energy flows mean steadier markets and more predictable economic conditions. Beyond energy, structural reforms and strong financial buffers have strengthened the Kingdom's ability to absorb economic disruptions, supporting continued investment and growth across the country.

These efforts reflect a broader push to build resilience into the Saudi economy, ensuring that both the Kingdom and the wider global market are better protected against future shocks.
