Saudi Sports Figures Urge Schools-Sports Links

Oct 27, 2026•2 min read

A number of Saudi sports figures have called for stronger cooperation among families, schools, universities, and the sports sector to help identify and nurture young athletic talent across the Kingdom. They argued that early, coordinated support is essential to build a steady pipeline of future athletes.

The push aligns with existing efforts by the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Sport, which have backed school programs that raise sports awareness and encourage greater student participation. At the higher-education level, the Saudi Universities Sports Federation promotes sports participation, talent development, sports management, student health, and sports medicine.

New partnerships in Jeddah

King Abdulaziz University and the Saudi Sports for All Federation signed a memorandum to expand student and community sports programs in Jeddah. The agreement covers the use of university sports facilities, access to equipment, logistical support, races, and motivational programs, with a target of at least 500 participants each year.

On the professional side, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development and the Ministry of Sport established a Sports Sector Skills Council to develop professional standards, education, training, and national talent for the sports industry. Under the Kingdom's 2026 sports-law framework, sports schools require licensing from both the Ministry of Sport and the Ministry of Education.

For families in Riyadh, Jeddah, and beyond, these initiatives mean more organized pathways for children and students to take part in sports, backed by universities and national bodies. Together they aim to turn casual participation into structured talent development and broader community fitness.
