Saudi Arabia's tourism and sports sectors posted strong growth figures as the 2026 Budget Forum concluded, underscoring the role both industries play in the national economy under رؤية السعودية 2030.
In its tourism session, the forum reported total tourism spending of SAR275 billion and more than 116 million domestic and international visitors, as the Kingdom advances toward its target of 150 million tourists by 2030. European arrivals rose 14%, while visitors from East Asia and the Pacific grew by 15%.
Officials highlighted steady progress on workforce and regulatory goals, including the Saudization of 41 tourism professions and hospitality-facility licensing reaching 98%. These steps aim to create local jobs and raise service standards across hotels and tourism businesses nationwide.
Sports sector on the rise
The sports market is valued at around SAR32 billion and is projected to reach SAR80 billion by 2030. Roughly 70% of sporting events are now operated by Saudi citizens, and the Kingdom planned to host more than 13 international sporting events through 2026. The redevelopment of King Fahd Stadium is planned for a capacity of 70,000 seats.
The updates were shared within the broader 2026 national budget, which projects SAR1.313 trillion in expenditure, SAR1.147 trillion in revenue, and a SAR165 billion deficit.
For residents and expats, the figures point to continued investment in entertainment, travel, and hospitality — translating into more events, venues, and job opportunities across الرياض, جدة, and beyond in the year ahead.
