Saudi authorities have issued severe-weather alerts for several regions as heavy to moderate thunderstorms are forecast to sweep across large parts of the Kingdom, bringing a mix of hazards that residents are urged to prepare for.
The affected regions include Jazan, Asir, Al-Baha, Makkah, Madinah, Hail, Qassim, the Northern Borders, and northern parts of the Eastern Province. Expected hazards include torrential runoff, hail, strong winds, blowing dust, and reduced visibility. Fog is also possible in parts of Tabuk and Al-Jawf.
Active red alerts were listed for parts of Makkah, Hail, and Asir, while orange alerts covered parts of Makkah, the Northern Borders, and other regions. Red-alert areas call for full caution, and residents in these areas are asked to follow Civil Defense instructions closely.
Why it matters
Torrential runoff and reduced visibility can make driving dangerous, especially on low-lying roads and valleys prone to flooding. Residents and expats across the affected regions are advised to avoid water crossings, stay clear of flood-prone areas, and limit travel during peak weather conditions.
