Al Nassr edge Al Taawoun 2-1, stay top of league

Al Nassr came from behind to beat Al Taawoun 2-1 at Al-Awwal Park in Riyadh on 28 August 2026, in a Matchweek 4 fixture of the Roshn Saudi League 2026-27 season. The win kept the Riyadh club at the top of the standings with a perfect record.

Al Taawoun struck first through Bassam Al-Hurayji in the 11th minute, silencing the home crowd. Al Nassr responded late in the first half when Samú Costa levelled the score in stoppage time, 45'+5. The turnaround was completed five minutes into the second half, when Cristiano Ronaldo netted a close-range finish in the 50th minute to seal the comeback.

The result extended Al Nassr's flawless start to the campaign — four wins from four matches — lifting the club to 12 points and confirming their position at the summit of the table. Al Taawoun, meanwhile, remained on 2 points in 15th place following the defeat.

Ronaldo, 41 at the time of the match, started and played the full 90 minutes, adding another goal to a career tally widely reported to be nearing around 978 goals. His late intervention proved decisive in a tight contest played in front of home fans in a late-evening kick-off.

Why it matters

With four consecutive victories, Al Nassr have positioned themselves as early leading title contenders in the 2026-27 season. For football fans across Riyadh and beyond, the strong start signals another competitive chapter in the Saudi Pro League, keeping the title race lively in the opening weeks of the campaign.
