Al Nassr Sign Portugal's Samu Costa in €22m Deal

Al Nassr have completed the permanent signing of Portugal midfielder Samu Costa from RCD Mallorca in the 2026 summer transfer window, in a deal reported at about €22 million (roughly SAR 88–95 million at recent exchange levels). The move is described as one of the club's marquee acquisitions of the window.

Al Nassr triggered a €22 million buyout clause in Samu Costa's Mallorca contract, with agreement between the two clubs said to have been in place since July 2026. Formal announcement was delayed while administrative and financial approvals were completed in Saudi Arabia. Earlier in the summer, figures ranging from about €9 million to €25 million had circulated while negotiations continued.

The transfer followed standard Saudi Pro League registration procedures. These included finalising the agreement between the clubs, completing medical examinations in Saudi Arabia, and submitting player registration documents to the Saudi Pro League and relevant football authorities for approval. Compliance and financial checks caused a delay between the agreement and the official registration, during which the player briefly returned to training with Mallorca while awaiting final clearance.

Samu Costa signed a multi-year contract reported to run until June 2030, making him a long-term squad member. The signing is seen as a replacement for departing midfielder Marcelo Brozović. The deal also triggered a sell-on clause owed to his former club Almería, reported at around 20% of the fee — a little over €4 million.

For Saudi football fans, the arrival strengthens Al Nassr's midfield options ahead of a competitive Saudi Pro League season and reflects the continued investment by Saudi clubs in international talent.
