AlUla Wins Gold for Responsible Tourism 2026

AlUla has won Gold in the Nature Positive category at the 2026 International Centre for Responsible Tourism Awards, announced on September 27, 2026. The recognition highlights AlUla's nature-first approach to tourism and its long-term commitment to protecting the environment.

The award acknowledges the tourism model led by the Royal Commission for AlUla, which places conservation at the heart of the destination's development. More than half of AlUla's area — spanning roughly 22,561 square kilometres — has been designated as nature reserves, one of the widest protected footprints in the region.

Conservation work in AlUla has already delivered measurable results. More than 500,000 native trees have been planted across the region, helping to restore natural habitats, while over 1,500 animals have been rewilded, reintroducing native species into the landscape.

Why it matters

For residents and visitors across the Kingdom, the recognition reinforces AlUla's standing as a destination where heritage, adventure, and nature coexist responsibly. It also signals how Saudi Arabia is building tourism experiences that balance visitor growth with the protection of natural ecosystems.

As AlUla continues to expand as one of the country's leading cultural and natural attractions, the award offers reassurance to travellers that the destination's growth is grounded in a serious environmental commitment for the years ahead.
