As the new academic year 1448–1449 (2026–2027) approaches, the Cabinet reviewed a set of achievements in the education sector, focusing on improving the organizational and operational efficiency of the system and raising the quality of learning environments across the Kingdom.
The Cabinet highlighted the ongoing construction and development of educational institutions nationwide, alongside the expansion of learning opportunities and scientific experiences for students, in line with the human capital goals of Saudi Vision 2030. It also pointed to efforts to upgrade teachers' capabilities through large-scale training programs and scholarships to keep pace with modern educational trends.
New curricula and AI content
Among the notable updates, the Ministry of Education reported that 22 subjects were revamped and 50 artificial intelligence educational units were added to the curriculum for the new academic year, supporting digital and future skills and encouraging innovation and creativity among students.
A new general education law was also approved to strengthen governance and the quality of the learning environment, including clearer regulation of private and non-profit participation in schooling. The system is being applied as a comprehensive framework to improve outcomes by providing resources, upgrading environments, and organizing the roles of the different sectors.
What it means for families
To streamline services, the Ministry launched a unified Education Portal that brings education services together in one platform, accessible through the national single sign-on based on نفاذ. For year readiness, the Ministry reported delivery of over 36 million textbooks before the start of the academic year, with a portion delivered to homes via the national postal operator, and no additional textbook fee charged to public-school students.
These reforms continue alongside the return to a two-semester academic year in public schools, which began in 1447–1448 (2025–2026) and continues in 1448–1449 unless later decisions change it.
