Domestic Flights in Saudi Arabia: Airlines & Routes

Flying between Saudi Arabia's cities has never been easier or more affordable. With a large network of routes connecting the Kingdom's regions, domestic air travel is a fast, practical alternative to long road trips — whether you're commuting for work between the Riyadh and Eastern Province, heading to Medina, or planning a getaway to the mountains of Abha. This Saudi Living guide walks you through the airlines, the busiest routes, what to expect on fares, and how to book with confidence.

Which airlines operate domestic flights?

Domestic air travel in Saudi Arabia is served by four carriers, giving travellers a good mix of full-service and low-cost options:

  • الخطوط السعودية (Saudia) — the flag carrier, with the widest domestic network.
  • طيران ناس (flynas) — a well-established low-cost airline.
  • flyadeal — a budget carrier expanding its domestic map.
  • Riyadh Air — the newest entrant, which launched domestic service to Jeddah in June 2026.

Having several airlines competing on the same routes means you can often compare and find a fare that suits your budget and schedule.

The busiest domestic routes

Saudi Arabia has around 138 domestic flight routes spread across 28 airports that handle domestic traffic. Some routes see far more flights than others, so you'll usually find plenty of daily departures and better prices on the high-demand corridors. The busiest include:

  • Riyadh–Jeddah — the flagship corridor, served by multiple airlines. Riyadh Air began here with two daily flights before adding more frequencies in June–July 2026.
  • Riyadh–Dammam
  • Jeddah–Dammam
  • Riyadh–Medina
  • Riyadh–AlUla (العلا)

Airports and network coverage

The three main hubs carry the heaviest load, but many regional airports offer solid connections too. Nine Saudi airports serve exclusively domestic flights. Here's a snapshot of route coverage at key airports:

  • الرياض (Riyadh) — 26 routes
  • جدة (Jeddah) — 25 routes
  • الدمام (Dammam) — 15 routes
  • Medina (المدينة) — 7 routes
  • Tabuk (تبوك) — 6 routes
  • Abha (أبها) — 5 routes
  • Jazan (جازان) — 5 routes
  • Ha'il (حائل) — 3 routes
  • Ta'if (الطائف) — 2 routes

The map keeps growing: flyadeal added nonstop domestic flights from Madinah to Jazan, Qassim, and Arar starting 1 March 2026, opening up new direct links for travellers in those regions.

How much do domestic flights cost?

There is no fixed government-set price for domestic flights. Fares vary by airline, route, how far ahead you book, timing, and any promotions running at the time. As a rough guide:

  • Sale fares can start from as low as SAR 55 one way when airlines run promotions.
  • الخطوط السعودية (Saudia) offered domestic one-way flights from SAR 122 in a February 2026 promotion.
  • Riyadh–Jeddah typically runs about SAR 200–500 one way.
  • Riyadh–Dammam typically runs about SAR 150–400 one way.
  • Jeddah–Dammam typically runs about SAR 200–500 one way.
  • Abha–Jeddah has been available at a low fare of around SAR 327.

Booking early, travelling midweek, and keeping an eye on flash sales are your best tools for the lowest prices.

How to book — and what to know about tickets

Domestic flights are booked directly through the airlines' own websites and mobile apps. You do not book flights through government residency platforms such as أبشر, مقيم, قوى, ناجز, or نفاذ — those serve other purposes and have no role in flight ticketing.

A few practical tips before you buy:

  • Tickets are generally valid only for the specific itinerary you booked.
  • Whether you can change or refund a ticket depends entirely on the fare rules of the airline — cheaper fares usually have stricter conditions.
  • Read the baggage allowance carefully, especially on low-cost carriers, as cabin and checked bag limits differ between airlines and fare types.
  • Have valid ID ready — a national ID for citizens or an official residency document for expats — for check-in and boarding.

The bottom line

With four airlines, a dense network of routes, and fares that can dip below SAR 100 on sale days, flying domestically in Saudi Arabia is one of the smartest ways to get around the Kingdom. Compare across carriers, book ahead, and always confirm the latest schedules, fares, and baggage rules directly on the airline's official website or app before you travel.
