The Esports World Cup will hold its 2026 edition in Paris from 6 July to 23 August, marking the first time the Saudi-founded tournament takes place outside the Kingdom. The relocation from Riyadh followed regional instability, yet organizers stress that the event remains firmly anchored in Saudi Arabia.
The seven-week Paris schedule features a prize pool exceeding USD 75 million, with more than 2,000 professional players and over 200 clubs competing across 25 competitions and 24 game titles. Operations are now managed by the Esports World Cup Foundation, a non-profit based in Riyadh and funded through the Public Investment Fund.
Why it matters for Saudi youth
The Esports World Cup is a central pillar of the Kingdom's gaming and esports agenda under رؤية السعودية 2030, aimed at diversifying the economy, boosting tourism and entertainment, and creating new careers in technology, media, and creative industries.
The National Gaming and Esports Strategy targets a sector contribution of around 1% of Saudi GDP — roughly SAR 50 billion — and the creation of 39,000 jobs by 2030 through 86 initiatives led by more than 20 public and private entities. It also aims to establish or incubate around 250 gaming companies by 2030, supporting Saudi youth in game development, esports management, and event production.
Foundation leadership describes the Paris edition as an expansion of a global platform "born in Riyadh," while its talent pipeline and strategic goals stay rooted in the Kingdom. Career and recruitment channels remain based in Riyadh, covering event operations, production, marketing, and technology roles — part of a growing professional pathway for Saudi youth in a fast-expanding global sector.
