A new regulation now sets a clear time limit for vehicles registered in other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries when they enter Saudi Arabia. Under the rule, GCC-registered private vehicles may remain in the Kingdom for up to 90 days within any 365-day period, whether those days are used in one visit or spread across several trips.
The 365-day count begins from the vehicle's first entry into Saudi Arabia through a customs port. The regulation applies to GCC-registered vehicles owned or driven by a Saudi citizen, a resident, or another authorized driver. Vehicles rented from licensed rental companies in GCC countries are exempt from the limit.
How to request an extension
Drivers who need more time may apply for a single extension of up to 30 days. The request must be submitted before the initial 90-day period expires. The extension is handled by the Ministry of Interior and is expected to be available through أبشر. Applicants will need a valid vehicle registration and a valid insurance policy to complete the process.
Overstaying carries consequences. A vehicle that exceeds the permitted period may face a traffic violation fine of between SAR 1,000 and SAR 2,000, along with impoundment until the situation is resolved. The owner or authorized driver is also responsible for towing, impoundment, and any related costs.
For vehicles already inside the Kingdom when the rule took effect, a 90-day grace period applied, running from 26 August 2026 to 23 November 2026.
The measure matters for the many families and workers who frequently drive between Saudi Arabia and neighbouring Gulf states. Keeping track of the 90-day allowance, applying for an extension on time, and carrying valid registration and insurance will help drivers avoid fines and the loss of their vehicle to impoundment.
