Getting Around Unaizah: Transport Options Guide

Unaizah is one of Al Qassim's most welcoming cities, and getting around it is simpler than many newcomers expect. Whether you rely on your own car, prefer ride-hailing apps, or want to try the region's growing public bus network, you have several reliable ways to move around town and reach neighboring cities like Buraydah. This Saudi Living guide breaks down each option so you can plan your trips with confidence.

Ride-hailing apps

Ride-hailing is widely available in Unaizah, and it's often the easiest choice for visitors and residents alike. Uber lists Unaizah as a serviced city within Al Qassim, so you can request a car directly through the app without needing to know local phone numbers or haggle over fares.

  • Fares are shown upfront in the app before you confirm.
  • Availability is generally good in central areas; peak times may mean a slightly longer wait.
  • Great for airport runs, shopping trips, and evenings out.

Local taxis

Traditional taxi rides also operate across Al Qassim and inside Unaizah. These are handy when you prefer to flag a car or arrange a ride the traditional way. As a reference point, a taxi between Buraydah and Unaizah takes roughly 26 minutes and typically costs around SAR 35–45. Always confirm the fare before setting off if there's no meter in use.

The Qassim public bus network

Public transport in the region took a big step forward when the Qassim bus network launched in July 2024. It's a practical, budget-friendly option that now connects Unaizah with Buraydah and other key destinations.

  • 12 routes covering the region.
  • 210 stations and a fleet of 73 buses.
  • Operating daily from 5:30 AM to 11:30 PM.
  • Routes are available on Google Maps, so you can track stops and plan journeys.

Notable stops include Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz International Airport, Qassim University, and the SAR train station — making the buses especially useful for students, commuters, and travelers connecting to intercity rail.

Driving yourself

If you have a car and a valid license, driving remains the most flexible way to get around. Roads between Unaizah and Buraydah are well maintained, and the trip takes about 26 minutes with very low fuel costs — often just a few riyals each way. Parking is generally easy to find around markets and residential districts.

Getting to Unaizah from other cities

Traveling from further afield is straightforward with a few options to weigh up:

  • By bus from Riyadh: an economical choice at roughly SAR 57–82, with a journey time of around 7 hours 42 minutes.
  • From Riyadh Airport: a combined train-plus-taxi trip is listed at about SAR 109–189, while driving yourself is far cheaper at roughly SAR 19–28 in fuel costs.

For many travelers, the SAR train station on the Qassim network makes rail a comfortable way to reach the region, with local buses or ride-hailing filling the last leg into Unaizah.

Which option is right for you?

  • Short trips in town: ride-hailing or taxis are quick and hassle-free.
  • Daily commuting on a budget: the Qassim bus network is worth learning.
  • Maximum flexibility: driving your own car.
  • Intercity travel: compare bus, rail, and driving based on cost and time.

Fares and schedules can change, so check the relevant official Saudi transport portals or the apps directly for the latest details before you travel.
