Historic Irqah Village in western Riyadh is being promoted as one of the oldest villages in the Riyadh region, with an architecture and urban fabric that reflect more than 1,000 years of Najdi history. The village offers residents and visitors a living window into long-standing Najdi social and architectural traditions.
The heritage experience centers on Najdi mud-brick houses, historic mosques, old farms, water sources, and traditional street patterns. Visitors can take guided walkthroughs of historic lanes and traditional homes, while distinctive architectural features such as courtyards, wind-catchers, and decorative plasterwork are showcased throughout.
Cultural programming also includes traditional crafts demonstrations and workshops highlighting skills passed down through generations, such as weaving, pottery, and woodwork. Small artisan outlets sell locally produced heritage crafts, giving craftspeople a place to share their work with the public.
Bayt Isa heritage house
A key operating venue within the district is Bayt Isa, a restored Najdi heritage house located directly opposite Al-Sana Mosque. It is open to visitors of all ages as a cultural and historical attraction focusing on Najdi domestic architecture and stories from Irqah's past. Typical opening hours are Sunday to Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., Thursday and Friday from 5:00 p.m. to midnight, and Saturday from 5:00 p.m. to 11:59 p.m.
Looking ahead, the former Irqah Hospital in the wider area is being transformed into the Irqah Laboratory for Creative Arts, a major cultural center spread over about 100,000 square meters. Plans include a theater, studios, a library, exhibition rooms, outdoor festival spaces, and zones for young creatives, with full operation projected for 2026. Parts of the site are already hosting visual arts, street art festivals, Arabic calligraphy exhibitions, and culinary heritage events such as a Desert Truffle (Al-Faqaa) Festival, typically running in the evening from around 5:00 p.m.
