Sitting on the Red Sea coast in the Makkah region, Jeddah has a hot desert coastal climate: plenty of sunshine, very little rain, and humidity that climbs as summer approaches. Over a recent 12-month period the city recorded around 213 sunny days, which tells you almost everything about what to pack — light clothes, sunscreen, and a plan built around the cooler part of the year. This Saudi Living guide breaks down Jeddah's weather month by month and pinpoints the best times to visit.
Jeddah's climate at a glance
Temperatures across the year typically range from about 17 °C to 42 °C, with daily averages mostly between 25 °C and 37 °C depending on the month. Rainfall is minimal all year, and even the "rainy" season delivers only modest totals. What changes most noticeably is the combination of heat and humidity, which peaks in late summer and eases through winter.
The coolest and most comfortable months (December–February)
Winter is the sweet spot. Average highs sit around 28–29 °C with lows near 21–23 °C, humidity is more manageable, and you'll see a little rainfall (roughly 4–6 mm per month). Days are warm and pleasant for walking, exploring the historic Al-Balad district, and enjoying the corniche.
- Comfortable daytime warmth for sightseeing
- Cooler evenings — a light layer is useful after sunset
- Lower humidity than the rest of the year
Pleasant transitional months (March–April)
Spring stays enjoyable, with average highs around 30–32 °C and lows near 23–25 °C, plus limited rain (about 3–4 mm). It's still very doable for outdoor activity, especially in the mornings and evenings, before the summer heat sets in.
The hottest period (May–September)
This is when Jeddah turns intense. Average highs generally run 33–37 °C or higher, with many days above 35 °C and virtually no rain (0–2 mm per month). Peak heat lands in June–August, with average highs around 35–37 °C and record days near or above 48–49 °C. Humidity is often high, particularly in late summer, which makes the heat feel even stronger.
- Plan outdoor activity for early morning or after sunset
- Drink water constantly and use strong sun protection
- Take advantage of air-conditioned malls, museums, and indoor attractions midday
When it rains (November–January)
These months are relatively the wettest, though totals stay low — roughly 6–15 mm Jeddah's drainage can be sensitive to sudden downpours, so it's worth keeping an eye on local advisories if heavy rain is forecast.
Best time to visit
For general sightseeing, walking, and outdoor experiences, the ideal window is November to March, when daytime temperatures mostly land in the 29–33 °C range, nights are cooler, and humidity is easier to handle. For beach days and swimming, October to April offers warm sea temperatures without peak-summer extremes — though the sun stays strong, so protection is a must.
If you're sensitive to heat, avoid May–September, when high temperatures and humidity can make daytime outdoor activity uncomfortable and demand strict hydration and sun precautions. Whenever you visit, keep sunscreen, a hat, and water within reach — Jeddah's sunshine rarely takes a day off.
