More than 50,000 runners took to the streets of Riyadh on January 31, 2026, as the Riyadh Marathon returned at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University, marking one of the largest editions of the event to date.
All race categories were sold out, underscoring the growing appetite for distance running in the capital. The marathon once again held World Athletics Elite Road Race certification, its fifth consecutive year earning the prestigious label that places it among the world's recognized elite road races.
The race was preceded by the Riyadh Marathon Festival, which ran from January 25 to 31, 2026. Entry to the festival was free, giving families, fans, and first-time runners the chance to experience the build-up to race day.
Why it matters
The sold-out event reflects the steady rise of community sport across the Kingdom, with running emerging as a popular activity for residents and expats alike. Mass-participation events like this encourage healthier lifestyles and bring together people of all ages and fitness levels.
By retaining its elite certification for a fifth year, the Riyadh Marathon continues to strengthen its position on the regional and international running calendar, drawing both competitive athletes and everyday participants to the capital.
