Ownership of Diriyah Club has formally changed hands, moving from the Ministry of Sport to the Diriyah Gate Development Authority as part of Saudi Arabia’s Sports Clubs Investment and Privatization Project launched in 2023. The move aligns the club with wider efforts to bring private and investment-driven management into the Kingdom’s sports sector.
Ownership-transfer procedures were completed in July 2024, when the club was transferred to Diriyah Company, a firm owned by the Public Investment Fund. As a result, current descriptions of the club distinguish between two stages: the original transfer to the Diriyah Gate Development Authority, and the later transfer to Diriyah Company.
Why it matters
The change reflects the ongoing push to professionalize Saudi clubs through investment-focused ownership structures. By placing Diriyah Club under a Public Investment Fund-owned company, the model is intended to support stronger operations, long-term planning, and sustainable development on and off the field.
This is a corporate ownership transfer between entities. It does not involve any fee in Saudi Riyal, application process, service validity period, or public-facing government service channel for residents or fans. In other words, there is nothing the public needs to apply for or complete.
For the community, the development signals continued momentum in reshaping how Saudi sports clubs are owned and managed, part of the broader transformation taking place across the Kingdom’s sporting landscape.
