The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing and the Ministry of Sports have signed a memorandum of cooperation to expand community sports across Saudi cities, develop public spaces, and support sports investment nationwide.

The partnership focuses on upgrading public parks, building sports areas around stadiums, and creating facilities operated with private-sector participation. To date, it has produced 39 contracts for developing and operating public parks, 392 temporary contracts for sports activities in parks, and 41 contracts for sports events held on municipal land.

Parks and participation

More than 100 public parks have been modernised under the Sports Neighborhoods Initiative, giving residents more accessible spaces to stay active close to home. The Saudi Sports for All Federation backs the Public Parks Community Sports Initiative along with its Steps Challenge, which runs in Riyadh parks.

Engagement has been strong: the Team Saudi Challenge recorded more than 30,000 participants and more than 51 million calories burned, reflecting growing public interest in everyday fitness.

For residents and expats in cities such as Riyadh and Jeddah, the effort means more well-equipped parks and neighbourhood sports options. Specific operating venues, opening times, and any paid-activity prices were not identified, and no participant or registration fees were published for these initiatives. Residents can check official channels — the Ministry of Sports, the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing, the Saudi Sports for All Federation, and participating municipality portals — for the latest details.
