Around 6,000 Saudis and expatriates took to the streets of Historic Jeddah in September 2026 for the Green Spirit Run, a community race held to mark Saudi National Day in the heart of Al-Balad.
The event was organized by Masafat Club in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports, the Sports for All Federation, and the Historic Jeddah program. Runners moved through the historic district, combining fitness with a celebration of national identity amid Al-Balad's distinctive heritage surroundings.
The run featured two routes to welcome participants of all levels. A 5 km course was open to professional and amateur runners, while a shorter 2 km route was designed for families and children, making the event accessible to all ages.
Why it matters
Mass participation events like the Green Spirit Run have become a regular feature of National Day celebrations across the Kingdom, encouraging an active lifestyle while bringing residents together in public spaces. Staging the race inside Historic Jeddah also placed a spotlight on Al-Balad, one of Jeddah's most recognizable heritage areas.
For residents in Jeddah, the turnout of roughly 6,000 participants reflects the growing popularity of community sport and the appeal of free, family-friendly outdoor activities that blend exercise with national celebration.
