Health authorities in Saudi Arabia have renewed their heat-safety and first-aid guidance for residents, workers, and pilgrims as summer temperatures reach their peak. Officials described overall public-health indicators as stable following the 2025 Hajj heat period, with heat-exhaustion cases reported and preventive measures expanded.
The guidance urges people to avoid direct sun exposure during the hottest hours — generally between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., with a narrower highest-risk window of 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. cited in one advisory. Recommended precautions include wearing lightweight, light-colored clothing, staying in shaded or cool areas, using sunscreen, a wide-brim hat, and sunglasses, and drinking plenty of fluids without waiting to feel thirsty. Sugary drinks should be avoided, and children must never be left inside cars.
First aid for heat illness
If someone is affected by the heat, move them to a cool, dry place and cool the body with water. Cold water may be given only if the person is conscious; nothing should be given by mouth to an unconscious person. Seek the nearest hospital for treatment. Warning signs include dizziness, heavy sweating, rapid heartbeat, nausea, and fatigue.
For pilgrims, advice includes using umbrellas, hydrating frequently, wearing light breathable clothing, minimizing exertion, and taking breaks between rituals. Preventive measures during Hajj were expanded to include more shade, water coolers, misting fans, and trees.
Workers are also protected under the annual midday work rule: outdoor work under direct sunlight is prohibited from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. every year from 15 June to 15 September in the private sector. Violations can be reported through the unified labour number 19911 or its mobile app. Following these steps helps residents and workers stay safe through the hottest months of the year.
