Saudi Space Agency Unveils Sky Events Guide to 2030

The Saudi Space Agency has released a free informational guide mapping the major astronomical events and phenomena that will be visible in Saudi skies from 2026 to 2030, aimed at raising public awareness and encouraging safe sky-watching.

The guide lists 62 astronomical events across the five years: 9 in 2026, 12 in 2027, 14 in 2028, 15 in 2029, and 12 in 2030. Event types include solar and lunar eclipses, meteor showers, planetary conjunctions and oppositions, equinoxes, and solstices. Each event comes with a simplified scientific explanation and observation guidance.

Highlights to watch

Among the standout events visible from the Kingdom is a total solar eclipse on 2 August 2027, seen as total in parts of the western and southern regions. A total lunar eclipse — a "blood moon" — is expected on 31 December 2028, followed by the close approach of asteroid Apophis on 13 April 2029. An annular solar eclipse on 1 June 2030 will be observable partially from Saudi Arabia, with a partial lunar eclipse about two weeks later.

A separate analytical report by the agency classifies 59 observable events through 2030 into 3 rare, 20 important, and 36 ordinary events, underlining their scientific and observational value for the Kingdom.

The guide, titled "الأحداث الفلكية 2026–2030," is available as a free PDF through the agency's official digital channels, with no fees for access. It is purely informational: it does not involve paid services, booking systems, or ticket prices, and it does not require any e-government platforms or applications.

For families and amateur astronomers, the publication offers a practical, safe way to plan sky-watching over the coming years. It stresses safe observation practices, including the use of proper solar filters during eclipses to protect the eyes.
