Saudi Arabia's main stock index closed lower on Sunday, 20 September 2026, after claims of attacks on “sensitive” targets in Riyadh weighed on investor sentiment. The Tadawul All Share Index ended the session down about 0.3% at around 10,750 points, with declines also seen across broader Gulf markets.
During intraday trading, the index was reported down roughly 0.5% around mid-day Riyadh time before trimming some losses by the close. Among heavyweight stocks, Saudi Aramco traded near SAR 25.4–25.5, off about 0.5% intraday, while Saudi National Bank slipped about 0.5%.
The pressure was not limited to the Kingdom. Qatar's main equity index fell about 0.9%, and blue-chip names such as Industries Qatar dropped around 3.7% between the open and mid-day trading.
Weeks of sensitivity to security news
Saudi equities have shown heightened sensitivity to security incidents in recent weeks. On 13 September, the index fell about 1.3% to roughly 10,865 points — its largest intraday drop since early April — with Al Rajhi Bank, Ma'aden and Aramco falling between about 1% and 3%. On 15 September, the index declined about 0.9% to around 10,782 points, led by losses in Ma'aden and Aramco.
For residents who invest, it is worth remembering that stock trading and pricing are handled through licensed brokers and the official Tadawul system, not through general government service portals. The market operates Sunday to Thursday, with continuous trading from late morning to mid-afternoon Riyadh time. Prices are quoted exclusively in Saudi riyals, with a standard minimum tick size of SAR 0.01, and no special fees or order rules apply to trades linked to security-related market moves beyond normal brokerage and exchange charges.
