A Saudi scholarship student, Rakan Alnasser, has established a partnership between the Drs. Paces initiative and Loughborough Basketball in the United Kingdom, opening a new development pathway for Saudi talent in the sport.
Under the agreement, Saudi student-athletes can join Loughborough Basketball's development program as practice players. The arrangement offers intensive training, hands-on coaching experience, and exposure to a university-level competitive basketball environment.
A key feature of the program is that participants are able to continue their academic studies while taking part in training, combining education with high-level sporting development.
The partnership also extends beyond the court. It includes joint activities bringing together Loughborough Basketball players and the Drs. Paces running club, creating additional opportunities for athletes to connect and train across disciplines.
Why it matters
For the Saudi community, the initiative reflects the growing presence of Saudi student-athletes on the international stage and the role they can play in building bridges for others. By creating a structured route into a competitive overseas program while safeguarding academic commitments, the partnership offers a practical model for developing local sporting talent abroad.
As interest in basketball and organized sport continues to rise across the Kingdom, pathways like this give young players a chance to gain experience in demanding environments and bring that knowledge back home.
