Connecting your home to water and sewage services is one of the first practical steps when you move into a new property in Saudi Arabia — whether you own a villa, an apartment building, or a newly developed plot. The good news is that the request itself is submitted online for free through the national e-services portal, in both Arabic and English. The costs come later, once your request is approved and the connection tariffs and any execution work apply. This guide from سعودي ليفنج walks you through the fees, deposits, and situations you'll encounter so you can plan your budget with confidence.
How to submit a connection request
Residential water and sewage connection requests are handled through the national e-services portal. The service is listed as free to submit — there is no application fee for lodging the request. Once your request is reviewed and approved, the standard connection tariffs and any execution costs become due.
- The service is available online in both Arabic and English.
- Submitting the request costs nothing, but connection fees apply after approval.
- Always confirm the latest steps and required documents on the official Saudi government portal before you begin.
Standard connection fees for buildings
For a residential building with a built-up area of up to 675 m², the fees are fixed and straightforward:
- Water connection: 3,000 SAR
- Sewage (wastewater) connection: 5,000 SAR
If your building exceeds 675 m², progressive (escalating) fees apply for both water and sewage. For very large buildings over 3,000 m², charges are based on the actual implementation costs set by the service provider rather than a fixed tariff.
Fees based on plot size and meter diameter
For residential plots, the fee structure depends on both the plot area and the meter size your property needs:
- Plots up to 350 m²: water connection fee is 3,000 SAR.
- Plots over 350 m²: add 20 SAR up to a maximum of 15,000 SAR.
- Plots requiring larger meters (around 32–40 mm): water connection fee is 5,000 SAR; for plots over 350 m², add 25 SAR up to a maximum of 25,000 SAR.
- Very large diameters (greater than roughly 63 mm/40 mm): charges are based on actual execution costs, not fixed tariffs.
Multiple units and developer-installed connections
If your property has more than one residential unit, expect an extra charge per additional unit:
- 1,000 SAR plus 1,000 SAR
Where a real estate developer has already installed the connection pipes and infrastructure inside the property boundary, the beneficiary pays 1,000 SAR If the developer completes the connections before handover, an additional 1,000 SAR is payable for meter installation and/or data registration as part of the regulatory procedures.
Meter deposits and out-of-network costs
Beyond the connection fee, there are two extra items to keep in mind:
- Meter deposit / provision: small residential meters start at around 250 SAR, increasing with meter size.
- Out-of-network implementation: if your property sits outside the existing network coverage, you bear the actual costs of extending the network, on top of the fixed connection fees.
Tips to plan and budget
- Confirm your plot area and required meter diameter early — they directly determine your fees.
- If you're buying from a developer, ask whether the connections and meters are already installed and what remains payable.
- Budget separately for the meter deposit and any out-of-coverage network extension.
- Since the request is free to submit, apply early to avoid delays in getting your home fully serviced.
- For any exact figure not covered here, check the official Saudi government portal, as tariffs and schedules can change.
With the request being free and the fee structure fairly transparent, connecting water and sewage to your home is a manageable process. Plan ahead, gather your property details, and you'll be settled in with running water sooner than you might expect.
