Forty athletes with disabilities and special needs performed Hajj this year through a social-responsibility initiative organized by the Ministry of Sports, giving a group of the Kingdom's sporting community the chance to complete one of Islam's five pillars.
The initiative reflects a growing focus on inclusion across sports and community programs, extending support beyond the field to opportunities that carry deep personal and spiritual meaning for participants.
Why It Matters
Hajj remains a once-in-a-lifetime goal for many Muslims, and programs that remove barriers for people with disabilities help ensure the pilgrimage is accessible to more of the community. Initiatives like this highlight how sporting bodies in the Kingdom are broadening their role in social life.
For residents planning domestic Hajj separately, the process is handled online. Pilgrims create an account, enter their personal data, verify their eligibility, choose a package, and complete payment through SADAD to issue the permit. An electronic service fee of SAR 67.85 is deducted during the process.
Health requirements remain in place for all pilgrims. Meningococcal vaccination is mandatory, while seasonal influenza and COVID-19 vaccinations are recommended before performing the pilgrimage.
