Domestic Flights in Saudi Arabia: Airlines & Routes

Saudi Arabia is a big country, and flying is often the fastest and most comfortable way to move between its cities. Whether you're commuting between the capital and the coast for work, heading to the mountains of the southwest for a weekend, or planning a heritage trip to the northwest, the Kingdom's domestic network gives you plenty of options every day. In this Saudi Living guide, we break down the airlines, the main hubs, the busiest routes, and what you can expect to pay in 2026.

The airlines flying you around the Kingdom

In 2026 there are four main carriers operating domestic routes inside Saudi Arabia:

  • Saudia — the national full-service carrier with the widest domestic footprint.
  • flynas — a major low-cost operator serving a large share of domestic travellers.
  • flyadeal — a fast-growing budget airline that, together with Saudia, operates roughly two-thirds to three-quarters of all domestic flight capacity.
  • Riyadh Air — the newest player, which launched its Riyadh–Jeddah service in June 2026 with multiple daily flights on wide-body aircraft.

Between them, these airlines cover a mix of full-service and low-cost options, so you can usually find a fare and schedule that suits your budget and timing.

How big is the domestic network?

The Kingdom's domestic map is surprisingly extensive. Around 28 airports handle domestic flights, and 9 of these are domestic-only airports serving smaller cities and regions — including Al-Baha, Bisha, Gurayat, Sharurah, Wadi al-Dawasir, Rafha, Turaif, Al Wajh, and Dawadmi.

Altogether, airlines operate roughly 140 non-stop city pairs inside Saudi Arabia, so even smaller towns are usually just one connection away from a major hub.

The main hubs and regional nodes

Three cities dominate the domestic network:

  • Riyadh (RUH) — around 26 domestic destinations, making it the busiest hub.
  • Jeddah (JED) — around 25 domestic destinations, and the gateway for the western region.
  • Dammam (DMM) — around 15 domestic destinations, serving the Eastern Province.

Beyond the big three, several regional airports act as important nodes:

  • Medina (MED) — about 7 domestic routes.
  • Abha (AHB) — about 6 domestic routes, popular for cooler mountain getaways.
  • Tabuk (TUU) — about 6 domestic routes.
  • Jazan (GIZ) — about 5 domestic routes.
  • Najran (EAM) — about 3 domestic routes.

The busiest routes

If you fly domestically, chances are you'll be on one of these high-traffic corridors:

  • Riyadh – Jeddah — the flagship route, with frequent departures throughout the day.
  • Riyadh – Dammam — a short, popular business hop.
  • Jeddah – Dammam — connecting the west and east coasts.
  • Riyadh – Medina — a steady favourite for religious and family travel.
  • Riyadh – AlUla — increasingly busy thanks to heritage and tourism demand.

What you can expect to pay in 2026

Fares vary a lot depending on demand, how far ahead you book, and whether you add checked luggage. As a rough guide for one-way economy tickets (excluding luggage upsells):

  • Riyadh → Jeddah: typically SAR 200–500 one way on Saudia, flynas, or flyadeal.
  • Riyadh → Dammam: typically SAR 150–400 one way on Saudia, flynas, or flyadeal.
  • Jeddah → Dammam: typically SAR 200–500 one way on Saudia and other carriers.

Low-cost carriers usually advertise the lowest base fares, but remember to factor in add-ons for baggage, seat selection, and meals — sometimes a full-service ticket ends up comparable once extras are included.

Practical tips for booking domestic flights

  • Book early for busy routes and peak periods; last-minute fares on Riyadh–Jeddah can jump sharply.
  • Compare the total price, not just the headline fare — add baggage and seat costs before deciding.
  • Keep your ID or residency document handy; you'll need it at check-in and security.
  • Arrive with time to spare at large hubs like Riyadh and Jeddah, where terminals can be busy.
  • Always confirm the latest schedules, baggage rules, and travel requirements directly on the airline's official app or website before you fly.

With four carriers, roughly 140 routes, and daily frequencies on the main corridors, getting around Saudi Arabia by air has never been easier — and it keeps expanding as the network grows.
