Four Saudi football clubs moved to new ownership during 2023, with major national entities taking over Al-Qadisiyah, Diriyah, AlUla, and Suqoor clubs as part of a wider push to strengthen the Kingdom's sports sector.
Al-Qadisiyah Club passed to Saudi Aramco, while Diriyah Club came under the Diriyah Gate Development Authority. AlUla Club transferred to the Royal Commission for AlUla, and Suqoor Club moved to NEOM Company. Suqoor was later associated with the NEOM sports club identity.
Why it matters
Bringing clubs under well-resourced national bodies is designed to raise standards across facilities, management, and youth development. For fans and local communities, the shift points to stronger investment, clearer long-term planning, and a closer link between clubs and the regions they represent.
Each of the new owners is tied to a flagship national project or region, which supporters hope will help grow the clubs' fan bases and improve their competitiveness over the coming seasons.
These are ownership changes only. No purchase prices, administrative fees, application steps, or online government procedures apply to residents or fans in connection with the transfers.
