Haramain High-Speed Railway: Intercity Travel Guide

The Haramain High-Speed Railway has transformed intercity travel in the western region of the Kingdom, connecting key destinations quickly, comfortably, and reliably. Whether you're a resident commuting between cities, a visitor heading to perform Umrah, or simply exploring Saudi Arabia, this guide from سعودي ليفنج walks you through everything you need to know — from stations and fares to booking and boarding.

Stations and Routes

The network links five stations that cover the most important travel corridors in the western region:

  • Makkah
  • Jeddah
  • King Abdulaziz International Airport (Jeddah Airport)
  • King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC)
  • Madinah

This makes it easy to travel directly between the two holy cities, reach the Jeddah airport terminal, or stop at KAEC without dealing with highway traffic.

Adult One-Way Fares

Fares differ by route and class. The adult one-way base fares (economy / business) are:

  • Makkah – Jeddah: SAR 43 / SAR 90
  • Makkah – Jeddah Airport: SAR 65 / SAR 101.40
  • Makkah – KAEC: SAR 92 / SAR 195
  • Makkah – Madinah: SAR 162 / SAR 455
  • Jeddah – Madinah: SAR 135 / SAR 375
  • Jeddah Airport – Madinah: SAR 130 / SAR 365
  • KAEC – Madinah: SAR 108 / SAR 270

Keep in mind that actual prices can vary based on your travel date, how full the train is, and other booking factors. The displayed fares on the official fare table already include VAT. Always confirm the current price at the time of booking.

Discounts for Families and Special Cases

The railway offers several discounts that can make family travel more affordable:

  • Children (economy): 50% off the base fare.
  • Children (business): 40% off the base fare.
  • Infants: One infant per adult may travel with a 90% discount while sharing the adult's seat; any additional infant receives the applicable child discount.
  • Passengers with special needs: Eligible passengers receive 50% off.

How to Book Your Ticket

Booking is straightforward and fully digital. Use the official Haramain website or the official mobile application and follow these steps:

  • Select your departure and arrival stations.
  • Choose your travel date and whether it's a one-way or return journey.
  • Add passenger categories (adult, child, infant, special needs).
  • Pick your train, class, and seats.
  • Enter each passenger's passport, Iqama, or Saudi national-ID details.
  • Complete payment.

All trains are fully reserved, so you must hold a confirmed ticket before boarding — there is no walk-on option.

Payment and Ticket Delivery

Online bookings accept Mada, Visa, and Mastercard. Your booking is only confirmed after a successful payment. Once confirmed, the electronic ticket is sent to you by email and SMS, so keep both handy on travel day.

If you prefer to book by phone, you can call customer support at 920004433. Note that telephone bookings carry an additional fee of SAR 15

Identification and Ticket Validity

When boarding, the passenger must present a valid passport, Iqama, or national ID that matches the details on the ticket. Make sure the identity document you used during booking is the one you carry on the day of travel.

Your ticket is valid only for the specific travel date, departure time, train, route, class, and seat shown on it. If your plans change, review the official channels for your options rather than relying on the train being flexible on the day.

Quick Tips for a Smooth Journey

  • Book early for popular routes like Makkah–Madinah, especially during peak seasons.
  • Double-check that passenger names and ID numbers are entered correctly before paying.
  • Save your e-ticket offline in case of weak signal at the station.
  • Arrive with enough time to pass through the station checks before departure.

No Absher, Muqeem, Qiwa, Najiz, Nafath, or Tawakkalna procedure is required for ordinary passenger booking — booking directly through the official Haramain channels is all you need to travel.
