The National Center for Meteorology has issued a heat wave alert for the Eastern Region, with maximum temperatures forecast between 47 and 48°C across several governorates, including Dammam, Dhahran, Jubail, Khobar, Qatif, Ras Tanura, Al-Ahsa, Hafar Al-Batin, Khafji, Nairyah, and Qaryat Al-Ulya.
The alert, published through the center's early warning platform, specifies the affected region, covered governorates, event type, start and end times, and the expected temperature range. Heat wave alerts typically cover same-day windows of several hours, often around 11:00 to 17:00, while raised-dust advisories may run from morning to early evening.
Alongside the high temperatures, forecasters expect strong, active surface winds of roughly 40 to 59 km/h, which may stir up blowing dust and sand. This can reduce horizontal visibility to about 1 to 3 km in open areas and along highways, with higher waves possible along coastal areas.
The early warning system classifies these advisories using color levels, with orange indicating more severe heat and yellow used for blowing dust or less intense conditions. As of August 2026, daytime highs around 47°C remain typical for key locations across the province.
What residents should know
These are short-term public weather warnings only. They do not introduce any fees, permits, or application steps, and they are not linked to any e-government service platform. Residents in the Eastern Region are advised to limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated, and take extra care on highways when visibility drops due to blowing dust.
