Fawaz Al-Sahli Named President of Transport Authority

A royal decree issued on 12 February 2026 (24 Shaaban 1447H) appointed engineer Fawaz bin Zinaaf bin Fawaz Al-Sahli as President of the Transport General Authority (TGA) in Saudi Arabia, at the "excellent rank." The appointment strengthens the Kingdom's oversight of land, rail, and maritime transport services.

The Transport General Authority is a government body with financial and administrative independence, headquartered in Riyadh. It regulates and supervises land, rail, and maritime transport, including public transport services for passengers within and between cities, while working to raise service quality, safety, and efficiency. The authority's board is chaired by the Minister of Transport and Logistics Services, with the president serving as its executive head.

Al-Sahli previously served as vice president for the regulatory sector at the authority and specializes in transport and logistics engineering. He brings experience in major rail projects, including the North line and Riyadh Metro, and has represented Saudi Arabia at international transport forums. Following the decree, he has been identified as President of the Transport General Authority in official communications, including leading the Saudi delegation to sessions of the International Maritime Organization Council.

Why it matters

For residents across Riyadh, Jeddah, and other cities, the authority's role touches everyday services such as public buses, taxis, and rail. Its strengthened focus covers regulation of land and maritime transport, oversight of seaports' maritime activities, and enhancing safety and service standards in public and commercial transport.

The move supports Saudi Arabia's goal to become a global logistics hub under Vision 2030, through the development of public transport, rail, and maritime logistics networks, alongside railway sector expansion and job-creation targets by 2030.
